Indications
Famvir is drug that fights off viruses. It works by slowing down the growth and spread of herpes viruses. It does this so that the body can fight off infection. Famvir cuts down the amount of time the symptoms of viral infection are present.
Famvir is primarily indicated in treating infections caused by the herpes virus. It includes shingles, genital herpes and cold sores among people infected with HIV. It may also be indicated for purposes other than those indicated here.
Contraindications
Famvir should not be taken if you have any previous allergic reaction to penciclovir without your doctor's approval. It is also not advisable if you have kidney disease.
Famvir belongs to the FDA pregnancy Category B, which means that it is not known to harm an unborn child. Overdose
Symptoms of overdose of Famvir include the following:
- Hallucination;
- Kidney damage;
- Seizures;

Missed Dose
Doses of Famvir should not be missed. If as dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered.
